What we believe at Christian Tabernacle Church, DoncasterThe Bible
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. It is inspired, inerrant and infallible. God’s Word is supremely authoritative and complete in all matters of faith and conduct. It is sufficient revelation concerning God's nature, creation, His will for mankind and salvation through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the divine author of Scripture (2 Peter 1:21) while still using the individual personalities as human authors as they were guided by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:15,16) to ensure that they wrote precisely what He wanted written, without error or omission. (John 20:31; Revelation 22:19; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 6:18b; Psalms 119:160; Psalms 12:6,7) God
We believe God is the Creator of the Universe; He is eternal, true, holy and just. He is self existent, self governing and ruler of the universe. There is only one God. He exists in three personalities: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. These three are coequal in being and nature, and have the same divine attributes, but differ in their manifestation of work. (Deuteronomy 6: 4; 1 John. 5:7). He has revealed Himself in history to all men through His chosen people, the prophets and, especially, through His own son, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1:1-3). (Genesis 1:1; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Titus 2:13; 2 Corinthians 3:17,18; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8; John 17:3; 1 Corinthians 8:5-6; Galatians 4:8-9; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 John 5:7). Jesus
Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Saviour of the world (Matthew 1:24 and Acts 1:12). He is coequal with God the Father. He was the Word that existed in the beginning with God, and later manifested in the flesh (John 1:1-3, 14) as he (Jesus) was born of a miraculous conception from the Virgin Mary. He did this in order to share in the humanity of those he came to save who had flesh and blood so that through death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is the devil (Hebrews 2:14-18 [14]). Jesus is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5-6 [5]). Jesus Christ died and arose from the dead (Romans 1:1-4; 1 Corinthians 15:12-24 [12]). The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He helps people become aware of their need for the Saviour Jesus Christ. He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration. He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment (John 16:8-11). He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He seals us unto the day of redemption (Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13-14). He has made us able ministers of the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 3:6). He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate experience. Signs and gifts such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing etc follow those who believe (Mark 16:15-18; Acts 2:1-4; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10). Creation
We believe that God is the creator of the entire universe including the all living things (Genesis 1:1-26; Nehemiah 9:6; Acts 14:15; Hebrews 11:3). He sustains this creation by His sovereign power. He is supreme ruler and Lord of every being. God created mankind in His own image with a body, soul and spirit (Genesis 2:7; Genesis 1:27; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12). Mankind was created without sin (Ecclesiastes 7:29) but with free will in order to enjoy fellowship with God and to express his will and purpose at all times. Sin entered when Adam and Eve dishonoured God’s command not to eat the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6). The fall of man
We believe that since the fall of our first parents (Adam and Eve), every person born into the world inherits their fallen status thereby incurring physical and spiritual death. All are sinners by nature and subsequently by act, but through conscience mankind have the knowledge of God’s existence, right and wrong and the consequence of disobedience. Man is now separated from God and is naturally drawn by evil. The human race can only overcome sin through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ who destroyed the work of Satan on the Cross (John 3:8). (Genesis 2: 1-13; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 1:18-20; Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:15-17; Romans 3:10-12, 23). Human responsibility
We believe that every human being has responsibility to God alone in all matters of faith. (Romans 14:11-12). The Great CommissionWe believe in the Great Commission – to obey God’s command and minister His saving grace by preaching and teaching his word to everyone. Reach out to the needy and unbelievers (Matthew 28:16-20; Mark 16:15-18). SalvationMankind is a sinner by nature because of the sin of Adam. The result of sin is eternal death and separation from God. Jesus shed his blood and died on the cross to pay the penalty for sin. All who believe in Jesus now have Salvation, which is God’s gift for mankind. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Mankind can only have God’s gift of salvation and forgiveness through God’s grace by faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation through Christ may be expressed in three tenses: past, present, and future. When a person believes in Christ, he is saved (Acts 16:31). We are also in the process of being saved from the power of sin (Romans 8:13; Philippians 2:12). Finally, we shall be saved from the very presence of sin (Romans 13:11; Titus 2:12-13). God brings into our lives today the power of Christ's resurrection (Romans 6:4) and allows us a foretaste of our future life as His children (2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:14). Our experience of salvation will be complete when Christ returns (Hebrews 9:28) and the kingdom of God is fully revealed (Matthew 13:41-43). Eternal life begins the moment the following happens: ![]() (Romans 10:9-10, 13; John 11:25-26a [25]; John 3:36, 1 Corinthians 15:2-4; 1 Thessalonians 4:14; Ephesians 1:1;, Acts 3:19-20 [19]). Refusing to believeThose who refuse to believe will face punishment forever after death. Whoever believes in him [Christ] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. (John 3:18). Resurrection
We believe that all men will be resurrected, both the righteous and the wicked (Acts 24:15). The first resurrection is for those who will be ready to meet the Lord when he comes (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) and the remaining dead will be found in the second resurrection to face Judgement. |
